PRIVATE YOGA THERAPY

Yoga Therapy supports your healing process by complementing existing therapies, helping your body’s intrinsic ability to heal itself. If you feel as if you’ve “done everything” to feel better, perhaps this is the time to be gentle and “under-do.”

Yoga Therapy is restorative, gentle, and deep.

I have been working as a Yoga Therapist* with private clients for the past 23 years. The unique blend of my health care background, professional nursing experience, and ongoing yoga therapy studies and teaching guides my integrative and intuitive approach to Yoga Therapy. This is not “yoga studio” yoga, or “gym” yoga, nor is it similar to physical therapy. Yoga Therapy is very gentle, subtle and deep. You learn and incorporate the pertinent teachings and tools of yoga, including Contemplative Practice Yoga® principles, greatly modified yoga asanas (postures) with props, basic pranayama (breathwork), healing touch, mindfulness, and meditation practices. Together we create a home yoga practice to support your healing and health.

*This certification as a Contemplative Practice Yoga® Therapist and C-IAYT is specific to Yoga Therapy and is derived from my advanced studies in Yoga Therapy and my education and experience in health care settings as a Registered Nurse. It is not derived from my status as an E-RYT 500 with Yoga Alliance.

Receive a personalized yoga practice to support your real life.

Together, we work in a series of private sessions to meet your specific goals and needs. In collaboration with your health care providers, common conditions I address include PTSD, anxiety, fatigue, depression, burnout, and other emotional issues, modification of the yoga postures to accommodate musculoskeletal issues, and acute and chronic pain. You receive my undivided attention and a customized session based on how you show up on any given day. At the end of our work together you receive a personalized, gentle home yoga practice that will support and sustain you in your real life.

My private Yoga Therapy practice allows me to work with you in the privacy of my home studio or online.

What Clients Are Saying

“Althea’s gentle, kind and loving nature assured us that my daughter had a safe space in her presence. Not only was Althea able to address anxiety issues, but she taught my daughter to use the power of her mind, soul, and body. Various yoga techniques, learning about the central nervous system, finding her breath and the practice of meditation were some of the many takeaways that empowered my daughter. My family is forever grateful for Althea’s gifts of knowledge, calm, and yoga. She is a woman we wish to remain in our lives forever.”

L. H.

“Within minutes of meeting Althea I was struck by her vibrance and I saw a way out (of my anxiety). Althea gave me a series of yoga poses and breathing techniques that became part of my morning routine, calming my mind and body at the beginning of each day. With the help of Althea, I learned how to focus on the present and connect my mind and body. 10 months later, the tools Althea taught me are still an active part of my daily routine to maintain this feeling of joy that Althea helped me to find.”

A. W.

“Althea has been a valuable clinician for our patients and a significant resource to our staff. Whether receiving patients in their symptomatic expression and woundedness with equanimity and kindness or fostering strength and self-care, she has assisted our patients in utilizing breath to notice, calm, and regulate the stirrings of their souls. She has been able to give our chronic pain patients the experience that they have the power to regulate their pain through deliberate and diffuse focus, meditation, deep relaxation, and release.”
